JEANNE WILLIS’ RETIREMENT

After twenty-five years of dedicated service as church secretary and Hospitality Plus founding Co-Ordinator, Jeanne Willis is retiring.

The congregation is invited to take part in the celebration of Jeanne’s ministry on Sunday, September 19th at the service and at a reception to follow.

Anyone wishing to contribute to her parting gift is asked to be prepared to make that donation on Sunday, September 12th.

Please join with us in showing our thanks and wishing Jeanne our very best.

SCUC Council and Teams Planning Session.  
It is very important that as many Council and Team members attend as possible and it is critical for chairs or alternates to participate. Delicious lunch will be provided from 11:30 - 12:00.  
The planning session will run from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m.

Thanks to the CD Team for coordinating the collection of school supplies & money in support of Wesley Urban Ministries "Fill a Knapsack" program. With your help we were able to donate 6 full knapsacks and other assorted supplies!

 
Thanks also to the members of Unity's congregation, Clarence Becker and Gary Spears for their help with the painting of the Fireside Room. If you get a chance, go and take a peek!

 
CHURCH ORGANIZATIONS

FOOD DRIVE: Thanks to your incredible generosity, we have now collected a total of 851 food items for the Stoney Creek Food Bank.

MEDICAL MINISTRY INTERNATIONAL: needs your help to sort and wash used eyeglasses, and to sort medical supplies for their upcoming projects overseas. Work parties will be held on Wednesdays from 1-3pm and the fourth Friday of the month from 7-9pm, at 455 Barton Street (between Dewitt and Millen Rds.) Please contact Janet Cumming if you are interested in attending.

PAKISTAN FLOOD RELIEF: A special collection will be taken up on Sunday, September 5th which will be directed through the United Church’s Emergency Response Fund to help the victims of the devastating floods in Pakistan. The United Church has already sent more than $65,000 to help those affected and an additional $75,000 through the Canadian Foodgrains Bank. Your contribution will be matched, dollar for dollar, by the Canadian government if it is collected prior to September 12th. If you can do so, please give generously.

SENIORS LUNCHEON: At our next luncheon on Friday September 17th at 12pm, Chef Norm returns with a new menu to tantalize the most discriminating tastes. Call Sue McCarthy to register.

UNITED CHURCH WOMEN'S GENERAL MEETING: On Wednesday, September 15th at 6pm. Please join Unit A for a 'Hawaiian Night' of food and games. Feel free to wear your grass skirts and leis. Tickets are $12 each and are available for the unit leaders or Audrey Macdonald. You're welcome to bring a friend!

OTHER ORGANIZATIONS

HAMILTON’S VITAL SIGNS" is a report from Hamilton Community Foundation that measures the vitality of the city in 10 key aspects critical to quality of life. It will be published in the Hamilton Spectator on Tuesday, October 5.  As part of the report, citizens are invited to provide feedback on how they feel Hamilton is doing in each of the 10 areas. Please complete this brief, anonymous, survey and provide your perspective on Hamilton’s progress:
http://www.legerweb.com/hcf. It should take you approximately five minutes.  The results are being compiled by Leger Marketing, an independent market research firm, and will be published as part of the report on October 5.
MOUNT HAMILTON UNITED CHURCH: at 31 Summit Ave. is presenting its 4th Annual “Concert for Eritrea and Wesley Centre” on Saturday, September 18th at 7pm. This concert will feature the Agape Singers, Korean Choir. There is a freewill offering.

OPEN STREETS HAMILTON: This year's event will take place on Sunday, September 26th from 10am-3pm (rain or shine). It is a unique street fair that celebrates physical activity and recreation in our city while introducing people to the businesses and organizations that make our community great. James Street North will be closed to vehicular traffic and opened up for people to safely walk, cycle, and play. People will be coming together to participate in free, fun, family-friendly activities, games, art, music and dance. WATER IS LIFE: KEEPING HAMILTON ALIVE FOR 150 YEARS!
Come to our party on Sunday, September 12th from 10am – 4pm and join the Hamilton Museum of Steam & Technology and Hamilton's Public Works,Water & Waste Water Division as we celebrate 150 years of Municipal drinking water in Hamilton. This celebration will include family activities as well as a tree planting ceremony. Free event and museum admission. 900 Woodward Avenue, at the QEW.
